The journey is still long until the two countries reached common ground.

VIVAnews - trilateral meeting between foreign ministers of Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Monday, May 9, 2011, to produce a deal. However, the journey is still long and winding until the two countries reached a solid common ground.

At the meeting which lasted for three hours, Indonesian Foreign Minister, said at a press conference afterwards, both Secretary of State one vote in Indonesia agreed on the proposal. As said earlier by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono after the ASEAN Summit, Sunday, May 8, 2011, Indonesia proposed a settlement of a single package.

Natalegawa explained that a package solution is a solution where no charges should take precedence and the marginalized. With this solution, all demands and differences run simultaneously.

He stressed that the solution to be run later on is a process toward peace, not an event that will stop at one point.

"If we take it as a process, then the chances for progress are more open," he explained.

Natalegawa provide examples of implementing the solution. He said that if Thailand had submitted a sign of approval diplomatic dispatch a monitoring team from Indonesia, then concurrently with it will be announced meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) and Join Border Committee (JBC).

"This is an example of approaches that are one unit, not looking where the former, where the latter, but a unity," he explained.

Natalegawa said that both Secretary of State has agreed to be positive with Indonesia's proposal as well as providing a period when this solution will be implemented.

However, the problem did not finish up there. For its implementation, both still need to convince foreign minister and received full approval from both governments.

This approval was not easy. Meeting February 22, 2011 and has also produced a second agreement for the delivery of observers from the Foreign Minister of Indonesia. But because of disapproval of the government and defense sector of Thailand, then this issue becomes protracted.

Government of Indonesia, said Natalegawa, still have hope to reconcile the two sides. This is because both Secretary of State has committed to continue their peace process despite obstacles get in their own countries.

"We were given confirmation, regardless of the process in each country, all commitments are achieved remain to be implemented," said Natalegawa. (Umi)
